We Are The Tribe.

The Tribe Coffee Roasters is a small-scale, independent Norwegian coffee company whose main goal is to connect some of the most celebrated coffee producers in the world with the most distinguished coffee drinkers in Norway, Scandinavia and throughout Europe.

The Tribe was born from a single idea. Our mission is simple: we want to bring the most unique, exotic, and sustainable micro-lots to your table and tell the stories behind them. We want to introduce you to the most memorable people in the coffee world and show them in their pursuit of the highest quality of coffee.

OUR SOURCING PHILOSOPHY

We source extraordinary coffees
from all over the world, without middlemen, and in a sustainable way.

We understand that specialty coffee can be a means to increase producers’ income at the farm level. To maximize our investment only in coffee quality, we try to simplify our supply chain and avoid unnecessary costs as much as we can. We always seek direct contact with the producers we work with, avoiding traditional gatekeepers. We tend to work with family coffee estates and only with companies and cooperatives whose transparency and quality have been long recognized. Thus, we assure that the real farmers are those receiving the benefit of the paid price and that the money doesn’t disappear in the bureaucracy of anonymous organizations.

OUR CRAFT

This is how we roast.

Once our coffee lots have arrived, we take samples and focus on the variables that are most relevant to the roasting process. We measure the physical characteristics of each coffee and try to calibrate the roast recipe and the final roast degree to each kind of bean. Following our approach, we strive to find the best roast profile for each coffee.

Traditionally, there have been many different ways to roast coffee. Following our approach, we roast coffee remembering that coffee is a natural product and used to be part of a fruit.

Coffee is the seed of a coffee plant, of a specific variety, that grows in unique environmental conditions: the altitude, the soil, the water, the sunlight, the shadow, the temperature,… all these surrounding elements have an impact on the final taste in the cup. Human intervention through agricultural practices and post-harvesting processing is one of these elements, too. For simplicity, we call the set of all these variables “terroir”.

Terroir is the expression of all those surrounding elements that make a coffee unique, exotic, special, and unrepeatable. Expressive aromas of coffee blossom, jasmine, tea rose and hibiscus. Delicate flavors of peach, apricot, candied fruit, strawberry and ripe pineapple. A lively, pleasant acidity like oranges, grapefruit, green grapes, mandarin, or lime. We owe all these flavor traces to the terroir.

As coffee roasters, our goal consists of determining the matching roast profile that is going to reveal all the flavor and aroma notes of the terroir.

We strive to achieve a harmonious balance between sweetness and acidity, remembering that coffee once was a plant, a seed, a flower and a fruit, and to develop a full, pronounced body, without leaving room for the appearance of burnt aromas, unpleasant acids, or unwanted bitter substances.
